Workgroup session on corporate governance improvement in Russia

The 3d Workgroup session on corporate governance improvement in Russia was held on July 9, 2001 by the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy and Enterprise.

The meeting participants included representatives of State authorities, international financial organizations, domestic and international investors, as well as social institutions involved in corporate governance improvement projects in Russia.

The meeting addressed various aspects of information disclosure, such as information about material corporate events, subject to public disclosure with indication of disclosure sources (mass media or Internet page) and volume.

Another topic for the discussion was the methods of ownership registration, alienation and transfer of shares, and, particularly, relationships between registrars and depositories through nominee holding.

Meeting participants received draft amendments to Russian Laws "About protection of investors' rights and legitimate interests" and "About privatization of State property and basic procedures of municipal property privatization" for their review and further discussion.

Next Workgroup session on corporate governance improvement is scheduled for September, 2001.
